Fire Department Hiring

The 2018 hiring process is scheduled to open on 1/1/18 at 8am CST and will remain open until 2/5/18 at 5pm CST.  Please do not procrastinate in case you experience technical difficulties.  Once again, our departments are reporting many openings and are eager to hire quality candidates.

The 2018 Hiring Process dates have now been updated on this website.  All firefighter candidates which plan to test for a 2018 eligibility list should review this website completely and take note of the pertinent dates and times.  Applications are scheduled to open in January of 2018 and will remain open for approximately one month.  The 2018 eligibility list will go into effect starting in June of 2018 and remain active for 12 months.  It is EXTREMELY important that you review all tabs on this website to ensure a successful application.  Call or email with questions.
We are pleased to announce that the Merrill Fire Department and the Holmen Fire Department have elected to partake in our hiring consortium.  With the Red Wing FD opting out of our process, CVTC will be establishing eligibility lists for 15 full-time fire departments in northern WI.

This year’s hiring process is completely paperless. Please review the material contained on this website to ensure a successful application. If you have any questions pertaining to the hiring process or the CPAT exam, please contact us.

 

 

Understand the Requirements

Prepare & Scan Required Materials

All resumes, certifications, licensures, and documents are highly encouraged to be scanned so they can be attached to your application. You will need to scan and save your documents prior to starting your application. If you do not scan and attach your documents, a department may request hard copies of them later in the process.

Documents to scan:

  • State Driver’s License

  • DD214 if you are claiming Veterans Preference

  • Resume

  • Cover Letter (1 for all FD’s)
  • Proof of certifications and licensures

  • Any other employment related documents

Set Aside Some Time?

The application is very detailed. You will be able to save your application and come back at a later date to finish it. However,  once you submit your application, you will not be able to revise or alter the information. Make sure the application is filled out completely and accurately before submitting.

YOU WILL NEED TO FILL OUT A SEPARATE APPLICATION FOR EACH FIRE DEPARTMENT YOU WISH TO APPLY FOR, however most of your information will transfer over from the first application which makes subsequent applications more timely.
