Minimum Department Requirements
Each fire department has different requirements for employment.
Candidates are only to apply to those Fire Departments which they meet, or plan to meet, the minimum requirements by April of 2016. Please do not apply to a department if you do not plan on meeting all of their minimum requirements within this time frame.

||Marshfield Fire Department requires employees to live within 15 miles of the jurisdictional boundaries of the local governmental unit and must establish residence within the specified area within 60 days after completion of the probationary period.||Yes|
||Must live within 15 minutes of Fire Station One within the first year.||Yes|
||The City of Onalaska residency requirement reads: All fire personnel must reside within 15 miles of the City of Onalaska’s jurisdictional boundaries.||Yes|
||The Rhinelander Fire Department requires employees to live within fifteen miles and 20 minutes from the Fire Station within 30 days of hire.||Yes|
||Must live in Portage County within six months of successful completion of probation.||Yes|
||Reside within 15 miles of the boundaries of the City of Wisconsin Rapids within one year from the date of hire.||Yes|
